The best time of year to visit the ranch depends on your objectives. Generally, the HOTTER it is, the better the fishing. In late spring, the weather is very nice; however, the winds can pick up and water clarity can be an issue and the fishing is hit or miss. The general season is from April through October. If you want a chance to see or release hundreds of baby turtles, your best shot is in October. Generally speaking there is fish year round; however, the pelagic fish are abundant when its hot.
You will receive a comprehensive travelers guide when you book your trip that will include detailed information regarding gear selection. With advanced notice, we can provide gear for you. Here are some items we suggest:
◦ 6 - 14 wt, 9' fast action fly rods.
◦ Matching sized disc drag reel with WF Floating and Intermediate fly lines.
◦ It is difficult to obtain good flies in Baja. Depending on what you are targeting, I would suggest picking it up ahead of time. See our trip guide for specifics.
◦ 2 Pairs of polarized sunglasses.
◦ Waterproof Boat bag or pack
◦ Waterproof Camera
◦ Light, synthetic flowing clothes that dry quickly.
◦ A neck wrap or "BUFF". The Baja sun is relentless. Don't waste time on the water because of sunburn!
◦ Sunscreen. While sunscreen is usually a must, we tend to wear clothes with an SPF rating that helps us stay cool, and unburned.
